Duplicate Contact Cost Calculator

Estimate what duplicate records cost you every year on HubSpot, Salesforce, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or Shopify.

—duplicate records
—platform cost / year
—wasted sends / year
—total / year

Duplicates also split attribution: first-touch, Original Source, and UTM history end up scattered across records, so the revenue a campaign drove can no longer be traced. That cost doesn't fit in a dollar box — it shows up as marketing decisions made on broken numbers. Check your attribution readiness →

Duplicate Cost Calculator showing the yearly cost of duplicate records for a HubSpot account

How the estimate works

Every platform bills for duplicates somewhere. HubSpot, Klaviyo, and Mailchimp price by contact or profile tiers, so each duplicate is a record you pay for twice. Salesforce charges for data storage past your allowance. Shopify duplicates get your campaigns twice through connected email. The calculator multiplies your duplicate count by the platform's marginal list-price rate — assumptions are shown under the result, and you can change every input.

Why some platforms show no send cost

The wasted-sends tile only carries a dollar figure where a platform actually bills per email. HubSpot includes sending with Marketing Hub and Salesforce doesn't send marketing email at all, so for those the tile reads n/a — their whole duplicate cost already sits in the contact or storage figure, and pricing the sends separately would count the same duplicates twice. Klaviyo and Mailchimp duplicates do receive every campaign twice, so the tile shows how many sends that wastes, but the fee for them is baked into the profile or contact tier. Shopify is the one platform where sends are the bill: Shopify Email charges per message, so the doubled sends are the cost.

Where duplicate rates come from

Teams that have never deduplicated systematically typically find duplicate rates between 10% and 30% when they first measure. If you don't know yours, run an export through the free CSV dedupe tool for a floor — exact matching only finds the obvious ones — or run a free CleanSmart check to see the real number, including the duplicates only semantic matching catches.

Frequently asked questions

How is the cost calculated?

Duplicate records (your record count × your duplicate rate) are multiplied by the platform's marginal list-price rate per record, per month, for 12 months. Where a platform bills per email, the doubled sends are added on top. The assumptions for the platform you pick are shown under the result.

What duplicate rate should I use?

The calculator starts at 12%, and you can change it. To measure your own rate, export your contacts and run the file through the free CSV Dedupe Tool. That gives you a floor, since exact matching only finds the obvious duplicates.

Why do HubSpot and Salesforce show n/a for wasted sends?

HubSpot includes sending with Marketing Hub, and Salesforce doesn't send marketing email, so neither bills per message. Their duplicate cost is already in the contact or storage figure.

Are the prices current?

They use each platform's published list pricing as of 2026-10-20. Negotiated contracts and discounts will differ, so treat the result as an estimate.

Is that the whole cost of duplicates?

No. Duplicates also split attribution history across records, so campaign revenue can't be traced cleanly. That cost is real but doesn't fit in a dollar figure, so the calculator leaves it out.
