Connect HubSpot to CleanSmart

Import your HubSpot Contacts and Companies into CleanSmart for cleaning, then push the clean data back. Setup takes under 10 minutes using a HubSpot Private App Access Token.

5 steps
Estimated time: 5–10 minutes
Imports: Contacts, Companies

What you'll need

  • A CleanSmart account with administrative access
  • A HubSpot account (any tier)
  • A HubSpot Private App Access Token — how to create one

Setup steps

1

Open the HubSpot integration card in CleanSmart

In CleanSmart, navigate to Import & Sync. You'll see a card for each available connector. Find the HubSpot card and click Connect. The card expands to reveal the token input field.

2

Generate a HubSpot Private App Access Token

In HubSpot: go to Settings → Integrations → Private Apps, create a new private app, and enable the crm.objects.contacts.read and crm.objects.companies.read scopes. Copy the access token.

Tip: Click the info icon on the CleanSmart HubSpot card for a direct link to HubSpot's Private App creation page and a scope checklist.
3

Paste the token and click Connect

Paste your token into the field in the HubSpot card and click Connect. CleanSmart validates the token and establishes a secure connection. A green confirmation message confirms the connection was successful.

Tip: If the connection fails, double-check for leading/trailing spaces around the token. They're easy to pick up when copying from HubSpot's UI.
4

Import your HubSpot Contacts or Companies

With the connection established, click Import next to either Contacts or Companies. CleanSmart pulls the data, auto-detects field types, and maps columns. Large accounts (50,000+ contacts) may take 1–2 minutes to import fully.

Refresh to keep your data current

After the initial import, click Refresh next to HubSpot Objects at any time to pull in the latest data. CleanSmart tracks the diff between runs so you only need to review new changes on subsequent cleaning passes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import objects other than Contacts and Companies?

+
Currently CleanSmart supports Contacts and Companies from HubSpot. Deals and Tickets are on the roadmap. If you need a specific object type, email support@cleansmartlabs.com and we'll bump it up.

Why can't I connect? I get an error after entering my token.

+
The most common cause is a missing scope on the Private App. Make sure you've enabled crm.objects.contacts.read and crm.objects.companies.read in HubSpot's Private App settings. Also check for spaces at the start or end of the token when copying.

Can I push cleaned data back to HubSpot?

+
Yes. After cleaning and reviewing your changes, you can push the clean data back to HubSpot via the Export step. Your Private App token needs the crm.objects.contacts.write scope for this. CleanSmart shows a preview of changes before pushing.

How do I revoke CleanSmart's access to HubSpot?

+
Delete the Private App in HubSpot (Settings → Integrations → Private Apps), or simply delete the token from CleanSmart's settings. Either severs the connection immediately.

Is my HubSpot data secure while in CleanSmart?

+
Yes. Imported data is encrypted at rest with AES-256, stored in your isolated per-customer namespace, and never accessible to other accounts. See the Security page for full details.

Can I set up automatic scheduled imports?

+
Scheduled imports are on the roadmap. Currently, use the Refresh button to pull fresh data. It's one click and takes the same time as the initial import.
