Estimated time: 5–10 minutes
Imports: Subscriber profiles

What you'll need

  • A CleanSmart account with integration permissions
  • A Klaviyo account with access to create Private API Keys
  • A Klaviyo Private API Key — find it under Account → Settings → API Keys

Setup steps

1

Open the Klaviyo integration card

In CleanSmart, go to Import & Sync and find the Klaviyo card. Click Connect. The card expands to show the API key input field.

2

Retrieve your Klaviyo Private API Key

In Klaviyo, go to Account → Settings → API Keys and create a new Private API Key. Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "CleanSmart Import"). Copy the key immediately — Klaviyo only shows it once.

Tip: Click the info icon on the CleanSmart Klaviyo card for a direct link to Klaviyo's API Keys settings page and step-by-step screenshots.
3

Enter your API key and connect

Paste your Klaviyo Private API Key into the field and click Connect. CleanSmart validates the key and confirms the connection with a green success message.

Tip: Klaviyo API keys are long. If you get a validation error, make sure there are no line breaks or spaces in the pasted value.
4

Map your data fields

Click Map Data next to the list or segment you want to import. CleanSmart detects field types and suggests mappings for email, phone, first name, last name, and custom properties. Confirm or adjust the mapping and click Map Data to finalize.

5

Confirm — a new data source entry appears

After mapping, a success notification confirms the import. Your Klaviyo list appears as a data source in CleanSmart. You can now run it through the cleaning pipeline (dedupe, format, fill, flag) and export the clean data.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I find my Klaviyo Private API Key?

+
Make sure you're logged in with owner or admin access. Go to Account (top right) → Settings → API Keys → Create Private API Key. If you don't see API Keys in the Settings menu, your role may not have API access — ask your Klaviyo account owner.

The Connect button isn't working after I enter my key.

+
Verify the key is entered correctly with no leading or trailing spaces. Check that your internet connection is stable. If the error persists, try regenerating a new key in Klaviyo — the original key may have been revoked.

Can I change my mapped data fields after the initial setup?

+
Yes. Return to Import & Sync, find your Klaviyo connection, and click Edit Mapping. Updated mappings apply to future imports — existing cleaning runs are not affected.

How often should I rotate my Klaviyo API Key?

+
Annually at minimum, or whenever team members with API access leave your organization. After rotating, update the key in CleanSmart's settings to maintain the connection.

What happens if my Klaviyo account details change?

+
Update the API key in CleanSmart's Import & Sync settings. Go to your Klaviyo connection, click Edit Connection, and replace the existing key with your new one.
